Could you make £300 selling old phones, tablets and wearables? Brits sitting on £7.9 BILLION of unused tech
If you've got old gadgets that are left gathering dust, you might want to consider clearing out your drawers and making a quick buck
BRITS could be sitting on a staggering £7.9 billion worth of unused technology, according to a new study.
Research revealed that the average household could make £290.87 by selling old tech items, including phones, tablets, game consoles and wearables.
Over 2,000 gadget owners from across Britain were asked to list all of the tech that they had lying around at home.
Then MusicMagpie, a popular gadget re-sale site, compiled the data and tallied up the total, revealing an incredible amount of wasted tech.
Of those surveyed, 29% admitted they simply hadn't got around to selling their unwanted devices.
But it's not all laziness – 37% said they wanted a back-up in case their current device broke.
And a further 23% of the respondents simply didn't know what to do with their old devices.
Liam Howley, Marketing Director at MusicMagpie, said: "It's crazy how much we're missing out on by not selling our old tech."
"With more than a third of people admitting to struggling financially this month, it makes sense to make some additional cash by selling these unwanted items."
He added that flogging some unwanted tech is a great way to "make your money for further" after the post-Christmas spending splurge.
