iPad X concept imagines an epic crossover between Apple tablet and the new iPhone X, but some fans aren’t happy
The fabricated device shows what could be possible if Apple decided to upgrade its iPad design in 2018, but Apple die-hards are already sniffing at the new look
APPLE’S new iPhone X has a revolutionary, space-age design – but what if the iPad tablet was next in line for a revamp?
Dutch designer Martin Hajek has created a stunning series of concept designs for the iPad X, a made-up device that looks like a crossover between the iPad Pro and the iPhone X.
The first iPad launched way back in 2010, but the core design has changed very little since then.
Last September, Apple made a bid to freshen up its mobile products with the iPhone X, a spectacular device with an all-screen front.
It’s likely that Apple will roll this design out across more products in the future, and Hajek’s images show off an iPad with the same sort of super-screen we’ve seen from the iPhone X.
“The iPad design language needs a refresh,” explains Hajek.
“What could be more obvious than taking the iPhone X design style and slapping it onto the iPad Pro?”
“I present the iPad X – same form factor as the iPad Pro 12.9″, but with a much bigger screen.”
The imagined iPad looks seriously cool, with an edge-to-edge screen that’s only interrupted by a small notch at the top for sensors – just like the iPhone X.
But some Apple fans are already slamming this futuristic look on online forums.
One Reddit user wrote: “Good luck holding the thing though. Tablets shouldn’t have edge-to-edge screens in my opinion.”
Another said they were concerned that it would “cost more than some of the laptops” if Apple used the same expensive screen as the iPhone X.
And one user thinks the device could be too heavy to even use.
“The thing I would be most concerned about is not how you hold it, but the weight. If this thing uses the same glass sandwich design as the iPhone X, along with that same stainless steel band, it would be extremely heavy.”
It’s not all bad though, with other Apple fans suggesting this new iPad X model would “sell like hot cakes”.
One said “I’d buy that in a heartbeat”, while another wrote: “I haven’t owned an iPad in years due to the plus-sized iPhones making it redundant for me, but I’d be all over this.”
Sadly, Apple hasn’t confirmed any plans for an iPad X, but there’s a chance we may see new iPad models later this year.
