WHAT CHAT?

New WhatsApp feature lets you reply to group chat messages privately

A forthcoming update will let you reply to friends directly, without the whole group knowing what you've said.

WHATSAPP is working on a new feature that will allow you to reply to group chat messages privately.

The new option, rolling out soon according to WABetainfo, will give users the ability to start up a chat with someone in the group one-on-one.

A new WhatsApp feature will allow you to respond to group chat members privately.

That will be particularly handy to put a stop to the dreaded group message spam, or when you have something to add to a conversation that you’d rather not share with the wider group.

Once available, it will appear as a shortcut when you press and hold a message. It already gives you the option to message a person directly, but ‘Reply Privately’ will quote the message you’re responding to, to give your message some context.

This joins another new feature thought to be coming in the next Whatsapp update, which is the picture-in-picture video option.

This sees a new icon appearing when you’re watching a video in WhatsApp that will allow you to shrink it into a separate, moveable window.

Similar to the functionality YouTube uses in its app, this will give users more ability to multi-task while they watch.

No word on exactly when these features will launch, but keep your eye out for them in any forthcoming updates.
