Uber slammed for ‘wife appreciation’ campaign calling on men to ‘give their partner a day off from the kitchen’
Taxi app has been slammed after advising drivers to let their wives out of the kitchen for 24 hours
UBER has sparked a sexism row after running an advertising campaign to celebrate "wife appreciation day".
An email sent to customers read: "Dear husbands, a gentle reminder - Today is Wife Appreciation Day!"
"Order on UberEats and let your wife take a day off from the kitchen.
"Use promo code 'nocookingday'."
The note, which was sent to customers of the taxi app's delivery arm in Bangalore, India, has caused furore after someone posted a picture of it to Twitter.
Uber's chief brand officer, Bozoma Saint John, was quick to denounce the memo, writing on the social media site that it was "completely unacceptable".
The app said they had removed the promotion from the web and swiftly apologised.
Uber has been weathering a sexism storm, which came to light after an ex-employee blew the whistle.
It fired more than 20 people following a damning review and investigation into claims of sexual harassment across the company.
A blog post by former Uber engineer Susan J Fowler, which documented her experiences of alleged sexism at the company, went viral.
Its own founder, Travis Kalanick, described Fowler's experiences as "abhorrent" but also left the company earlier this year.

Disgruntled investors in Uber are thought to have forced the 40-year-old to walk.
The news came just weeks after the American billionaire lost his mother in a tragic boating accident.
In a statement released on June 17, he said: "I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors' request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted by another fight."
