Apple iPhone 9 or 11 rumours, release date, features, name and wild speculation after iPhone X launch event
IT'S less than two days since Apple unveiled its iPhone X, a flagship £999 gadget to mark the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone.
But people already speculating about the NEXT iPhone, which will probably not be released for at least a year.
Ever since the arrival of the first iPhone, Apple has released an updated model on an annual basis.
Some of these model introduced game-changing developments such as a front-facing "selfie camera" or the App Store, which kickstarted an entire industry dedicated to creating software for the iPhone and iPad.
Other changes were not so welcome, such as a decision to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone
Whatever Apple decides to do when it releases a new smartphone, it will be big news.
Before the big reveal, of course, there will be loads of gossip and some truly outlandish claims about the gadget.
Here is some wild speculation about the next iPhone - but don't hold us to anything at this stage.
What will the next iPhone be called?
This is a very tricky question indeed.
Apple has just released the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, which is actually pronounced as the iPhone 10.
Until now, Apple has followed a vaguely chronological naming convention, starting with the iPhone and then following it with a second one called the 3G followed by the 4, 4S, 5 and so-so on.
This would appear to make it unlikely that the next smartphone will be called the iPhone 9 - a claim people are already joking about on Twitter.
So will the next one be called the iPhone 11 or will Apple invent a new name?
We don't know yet. Stay tuned for more info.
When will the next iPhone be released?
This is actually quite a straightforward question.
Apple tends to unveil new iPhones at an event in September.
It seems likely it will follow this tradition.
However, we could a surprise release between now and then.
In March 2016, Apple surprised the tech world with the release of the iPhone SE - a small, cheap and very attractive little phone.
What features will the next iPhone have?
Again, we simply haven't got a clue.
It seems likely that it will involve wireless charging, which was introduced on the iPhone 8 and X.
Apple is rumoured to be to develop a system that can wirelessly charge a phone from 15 feet away, but this has not been confirmed yet.
The tech firm may even be working on a system which charges the gadget using solar energy or a person's movements, some rumour-mongers have suggested.
The high-end iPhone X has a cool facial recognition system that can be used to unlock the phone instead of typing a password.
If Apple sticks with its recently founded tradition of releasing cheaper model (the iPhone 8) along with an expensive model (the iPhone X), you should expect to see face scanning technology in all models.
Anyone looking for clues about the next iPhone could do worse than scanning through Apple's patents.
It was recently granted patents for a design idea which suggests future iPhones could be rolled up like a scroll or feature bumpers that pop out to protect a dropped gadget before it hits the ground.
