Is Facebook down for YOU? Fans take to Twitter to complain about social media ‘blackout’
Facebook fans across Europe claimed they could not access the site through Google Chrome
FACEBOOK apologised after a technical glitch blocked social media fans from accessing the site in the UK, US and Europe.
Many took to Twitter to complain that they could not sign in on their phones and laptops.
Website DownDetector - which monitors for outages - reported high levels of inactivity from Facebook.
According to the website, the main areas affected were the UK and Northern Europe.
A Facebook spokesperson said: “Earlier today some people may have had trouble accessing Facebook on the desktop version of Chrome for a short period of time. We’re back to 100% for everyone, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience
Those using Google Chrome browsers said they had seen an error message reading:"This site cannot be reached."
But the problem resolved itself if they switched to Incognito mode in Chrome.
Moving to Firefox also appeared to solve any issues.
Holding down Shift and then refreshing the page also proved to be an effective workaround.
Two billion people use Facebook every day - and keeping them online is no mean feat.
The last large-scale outage to affect Brits took place in February.
