How long was the wait for previous GTA releases?

It's fair to say that GTA games are now taking longer to produce.

GTA III and GTA Vice City were split by just a year, and San Andreas came out two years later.

By contrast, GTA V came out five years after GTA IV.

And now we're in 2025, still waiting for GTA 6 12 years on.

Rockstar accused of copying face of Florida Joker

A MAN is demanding Rockstar pay him millions for allegedly using his likeliness in the upcoming GTA 6.

Fans of Grand Theft Auto went wild when they spotted a character that appears to look just like Lawrence Sullivan, commonly known as the Florida Joker for his distinctive face tattoos.

Sullivan’s mugshot went viral in 2017 after Miami police arrested him for allegedly pointing a gun at passing cars.

GTA 6's fictional location, Leonida, is heavily inspired by Florida and gamers have dissected other possible nods to the US state.

Taking to TikTok, Sullivan accused Rockstar of copying his face.

He said: "GTA, we gotta talk GTA. Or not, you guys gotta give me like a mil or two.

"Y'all took my likeness, y'all took my life, look."

GTA games in chronological order

This is how the main GTA games are ordered based on when their stories took place:

  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – 1986
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – 1992
  • Grand Theft Auto – 1997
  • Grand Theft Auto III – 2001
  • Grand Theft Auto IV – 2008
  • Grand Theft Auto V – 2013

It's currently unconfirmed when GTA 6 will be set, but it's possible that it could be whenever the release year is.

What weapons are available in GTA 6?

Currently, the combat appears similar to GTA 5 with your usual range of weapons.

We did see a number of characters doing actions from cars, which makes us believe you will be able to shoot while driving.

We saw people wielding shotguns, pistols, knives and hammers in the trailer, but we think there will be other weapons like golf clubs, or baseball bats

GTA 6 features first female protagonist

Rumours about this have been around since Rockstar announced that GTA 6 was in development.

Leaks suggested that the upcoming game would feature dual protagonists – a man and a woman – in a modern take on Bonnie and Clyde.

The trailer introduced us to our female lead Lucia, and showed off her male partner.

Leaks claim his name is Jason, but this hasn't been officially announced.

GTA 6 allegedly makes Human League founder ‘iniquitous’ offer for the rights to his music

One of the best parts of the Grand Theft Auto series is the radio, and the dozens of shows you can listen to as you drive.

But radio shows are only as strong as their libraries of songs, and that means licensing tracks from the artists.

Most of these deals are made behind closed doors, but one artist has spoken out after receiving what they called an ‘iniquitous’ offer from developer Rockstar Games.

Martyn Ware has been in the music industry for decades, founding both The Human League and Heaven 17, and producing music for other stars like Tina Turner and Erasure.

At a glance - 6 key new features in GTA 6

Here is a list of the key new features in the most hotly anticipated game in history:

  • Co-operative dual protagonists
  • TikTok and live streaming
  • New vehicles and areas
  • More buildings to explore
  • More wild animals
  • Change in platforms

GTA 6 map – what we know so far

The map was one of the first things revealed. The new map of Vice City will apparently be almost twice the size of GTA 5’s Los Santos.

It cuts off to the north side, leading fans to believe it could be even bigger than what we can see.

GTA 5’s Los Santos is one of gaming’s largest at around 30 square miles.

This is the same size as Rockstar’s other popular game, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Disappointment for Xbox gamers

GTA 6 is expected to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in late 2025.

Many gamers on Xbox have been wondering if the game could be featured on Xbox Game Pass upon its release, and while it wasn’t expected that it would, some fans were holding out hope.

Unfortunately for those fans the CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, has seemingly ruled out the inclusion of GTA 6 on Game Pass, or any other subscription service.

Zelnick says that Take-Two won’t be changing its position on putting its games on subscription services on day one, even taking a swing at the idea.

Zelnick said: “It won’t affect our decisions, because our decisions are rational.”

Take-Two CEO speaks out on leak

Despite the leak, the GTA 6 trailer received 128 million views on YouTube in just 4 days after its release.

As of today, the view count is over 238 million.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the leak was 'disappointing' but 'didn't hurt' the company.

He told last year: "It's amazing when the trailer announcement is huge news, and then we were very gratified when the trailer broke the internet...so we couldn't be happier or more excited.

"In terms of the leak, that's always disappointing for the team, but ultimately, I don't think it hurt us."

Hacker who leaked GTA 6 trailer sentenced

Arion Kurtaj, 18, has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after being deemed a high public risk due to his cyber-crime skills.

Kurtaj, who has severe autism, breached Rockstar Games’ system while on bail and in police protection for hacking software and tech firms.

He had his laptop confiscated but managed to steal clips of the highly anticipated GTA 6 with a Firestick, his Travelodge telly and a phone.

Kurtaj, a key player in the Lapsus$ hacking group, then blackmailed Rockstar, before posting clips on a forum under the username TeaPotUberHacker.

Trailer launched after leak

Rockstar decided to launch the GTA 6 trailer earlier than expected after it leaked online.

The cinematic trailer with a 2025 release date promise was unveiled in December 2023

What does earnings call mean?

Publicly traded companies have quarterly earnings calls to give investors an inside look at their performance and future expectations.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick should inform investors if GTA 6 is still on track for its fall 2025 launch, even though the company is unlikely to announce a precise release date or when the next trailer is due.

We might also learn about the game's price, which is expected to be more than that of other games available.

Fans anticipate official update on GTA 6

Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, will hold its first earnings call of this year in less than 36 hours.

The call could shed a light on the release timeframe for GTA 6 or if it'll be delayed.

We might also learn if GTA 6 will come in two installments so that users can access multiplayer mode without purchasing the entire game, or if it will cost more than the typical $70 to help "save the video game industry."

Some fans have been speculating that a new trailer for the game or at least stills could be released as well.
