WhatsApp axes another popular feature days after outrage over ‘typing…’ replacement
WHATSAPP users have spotted a second big change to the app days after the long-running 'typing...' message was controversially scrapped.
The Meta-owned platform now appears to have axed the message at the top of the screen indicating that someone is recording a voice note.
Instead, it's been replaced by a microphone icon that appears at the bottom of the screen.
More users have reported seeing the subtle change this week, though others have seen it before.
It's not clear whether WhatsApp is testing this feature for a select number of users or making it available widely.
But the shake-up is sure to annoy some, given the outrage over 'typing...' being replaced.

It too no longer appears as text at the top of the screen and is replaced by a speech bubble with three dots at the bottom.
"Not a fan of the new typing indicator on WhatsApp," one user wrote on X at the time.
"WhatsApp now has the three dots typing thing like iMessage and I Hateeeee it," another said.
The design overhaul has been compared to Apple's rival Messages app.

WhatsApp confirmed today that the new typing indicator is permanent and rolling out.
It's not the first time WhatsApp has made subtle tweaks that led to a backlash.
Earlier this year, the social network was slammed for simply capitalising "Online" and "Typing...".
So much so, the social network u-turned and said it was only "a small test".
