ANDROID owners are set to receive a brand new button on their phones to prevent spam data from eating up valuable storage space.
The new tool is seemingly being built after being spotted in the code for the next beta update.
Google fans picked out a line in the data for v20241125_04 beta for Google Messages.
It's designed to address an issue with spam texts in RCS-based messaging systems.
RCS (Rich Communication System) is a data and WiFi supported alternative to traditional SMS messaging.
Google Messages and its Apple equivalent, dubbed simply Messages, are both widely used by modern smartphones and don't rely on standard phone signal.

The former is now reportedly introducing a way to combat unwanted messages, particularly "cold texts" from companies.
The new 'STOP' button will allow the user to unsubscribe from RCS Business Messages (RBM), the service used by firms to send out mass marketing material.
This button would pop up as an option when receiving an RBM and allow you to unsubscribe from the service, similar to email marketing.
It also means you won't have to manually text back to unsubscribe or to individually block each sender.

You will also be able to text "START" for free to go back on the list if you would like to receive marketing.
The move comes as part of a raft of features intended to help users deal with unsolicited messages, including scam texts.
When you receive an RBM, you will also get a pop-up telling you that the sender has been verified by your network.
It will also inform you whether the chat is end-to-end encrypted, as is standard for other RCS messages.
And if there is a suspicious link or unknown sender, the service will inform you of that too.
It's not clear when the feature will be rolled out, but keep an eye out for it following upcoming software updates.
