Windows stops updates for Assassin’s Creed and Star Wars players after continued game crashes

Certain Ubisoft players have stopped receiving Windows 11 updates

WINDOWS 11’s latest update has caused thousands of gamers to become frustrated with consistent game crashes.

Microsoft began rolling out the Windows 11 24H2 update in October, and immediately people began to notice issues with their games.

The update affected several titles from Ubisoft’s library including games from the Assassin’s Creed series and other recent releases.

People noticed that recently released Ubisoft games like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, were failing to launch, or crashing soon after they were opened.

They took to social media to discuss the issue only to find that others were encountering the same issues.

In response to the complaints from players, Microsoft has paused updates for Windows 11 on computers that have certain Ubisoft games installed.

Here is the full list of games:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Assassin's Creed Origins
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Microsoft explained: "After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.

"These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen."

Ubisoft has released a hotfix for Star Wars Outlaws that will temporarily fix these issues with update 24H2.

However, this is not a permanent fix and Ubisoft warns that Windows 11 users might experience performance issues.

Windows has advised those who have already downloaded the 24H2 update to revert to the last version of the OS.

Closed Windows

From personal experience I dread Windows 11 updates, as every one seems to break something with my computer.

I’ve had to perform factory resets several times to remove these updates putting my computer out of commission for the day.

It’s unlikely that Ubisoft could have predicted these issues, and I’m glad that Microsoft has paused updates for these users.

Most Windows users can only pause updates for up to six weeks, even if the last few updates have broken their system.

This news has made me consider purchasing and downloading Assassin’s Creed just for this perk, but that will depend on your Windows 11 experience.
