Pokémon players can grab Torterra in what people are calling one of the toughest raids yet

Torterra is difficult to take down, but one 'mon is the perfect counter

POKÉMON Scarlet and Violet are more live-service than any other games in the mainline series.

With new events every few weeks, people keep logging in to play and pick up the latest Pokémon and items.

This week fans can take part in the Torterra seven-star raid, and pick up the Grass-/Ground-type starter from Generation 4.

This raid is particularly terrifying as Torterra comes with the Ground Tera type, meaning that its Ground-type attacks do double damage.

What makes this raid even more difficult, is that Torterra uses Shell Smash twice during the battle tripling its attacking stats.

Flying-type Pokémon are usually immune to Ground-type attacks, but with the move Smack Down, Torterra can still hit them with Earthquake or Earth Power.

More in Pokémon

Shell Smash also boosts its Speed, meaning it’s very difficult to outspeed Torterra once it’s set up.

However, there is a Pokémon that is perfect to take down this raid thanks to its signature ability.

The Generation 9 Pokémon Orthworm comes with the signature ability Earth Eater.

Earth Eater means that Orthworm is immune to Torterra’s powerful Ground-type attacks, and it even heals every time one is used.

While Torterra can use Wood Hammer or Smack Down, Orthworm has very high physical defense, and with Body Press, Torterra does minimal damage.

Body Press isn’t a super-effective attack, but after three Iron Defenses, and with a Fighting Tera type, Orthworm can deal enough damage to take Torterra down.

Orthworm also gets the supportive move Mud-Slap meaning that Torterra is unlikely to be able to land a hit.

If you want to catch Torterra for yourself, building a strong Orthworm set is probably your best bet.

Pocket Pals

We love these difficult seven-star raids as they allow us to flex our Pokémon building skills.

These are events for more advanced players, but they can also help younger players learn the more difficult features of the game.

The Pokémon Community is also always there to help others, whether that’s by joining newer players in raids, or just sharing their strategies.

This makes the game more accessible for everyone, and helps people collect powerful ‘mons to take into future raids.
