DECKED OUT

Valve announces a new model of Steam Deck and this time it’s available all over the world

It's the first time that people will be able to grab the new model

STEAM owners Valve are the fourth big company to enter the console market after Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox.

With its expansive library of cheap games behind it, it’s no wonder that the Steam Deck was an instant success.

Since its 2022 release date, there have been seven models of Steam Deck: three LCD variants and four with an OLED display.

The company has since started phasing out the LCD models, but only one OLED model is gone for good.

When the Steam Deck OLED was first announced Americans could pick up a fancy translucent black model.

Gamers all over the world wanted to grab one, but it was only available in North America.

Valve says that it was testing out people’s desire to grab Steam Decks in different colours, and it seems to have been a rousing success.

The company recently announced that it would be launching a second colour variation of the OLED model in white and light grey.

Like the translucent black model, this is also a limited-edition Steam Deck and once it’s sold out it’s gone for good.

Each region will have separate availability, though, so you won’t be competing with people all over the world to grab one.

If you live in Australia this is even bigger news as it’s the first time the console will be sold in the country.

The Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White has the same specs as the 1TB Steam Deck OLED.

It also comes with a limited-edition white carry case, which isn’t available with the other models.

The console will go on sale at the same time globally, which means it will differ depending on your time zone.

Steamed Up

We love different versions and colours of consoles, so we’re sure that this will become highly desired.

However, limiting the quantity of items always encourages resellers, who gouge people after using bots to buy up consoles quickly.

Valve previously said that it won’t be creating mid-gen refreshes of consoles because it’s anti-consumer.

However, releasing consoles with new screens, memory sizes and colours has the same effect on players.
