FOR a long time, the Final Fantasy series has been linked to PlayStation, and games for the series are some of the platform's best exclusives.

While games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake eventually launch on other platforms, they remain exclusive to PlayStation for a while after launch.

However, things seemed to be changing for Square Enix after it was revealed that Visions of Mana would be the first game in the series to launch on Xbox.

Xbox is not a very popular console in Japan, and a number of Japanese games skip Xbox as a platform at launch.

It seems that Visions of Mana wasn’t an exception, and in the future Square Enix will be launching more games simultaneously on Xbox.

In an interview with , Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida revealed that Final Fantasy’s publisher, Square Enix, hopes to launch games on Xbox going forward.

More in Final Fantasy

As translated by GLHF, Yoshida said: “Right now, the biggest gaming platform is PC, and with the increased popularity of streaming, PC gaming is becoming more mainstream.

“Conversely, the younger generation is getting into mobile gaming as everyone has a smartphone.

“We want our games to be able to reach as many people as possible, and that means making them playable on any platform, rather than a specific one.”

Upcoming Square Enix RPG Fantasian Neo Dimension was originally an Apple Arcade exclusive, but it has since been announced that it will be coming to console.

It’s the first Square Enix game to be released for Xbox in Japan, though other titles have been released on the platform in the West.

While many Square Enix games launch on Xbox, others like the Final Fantasy series, are often timed exclusives for PlayStation.

According to Yoshi-P, this might not be the case going forward, as Square Enix hopes to release games simultaneously on Xbox even in Japan.

He continues: “With Fantasian Neo Dimension, we’re releasing it on Xbox Series X|S at the same time as other platforms.

“Going forward, we hope to release more and more Square Enix games on all platforms simultaneously.”

This is great news for Xbox players, though the specific games that will launch on Xbox are yet to be announced.
