There are some bonus remote tricks too – including a great way to skip ads

If that movie title is driving you crazy, don't reach for your phone – try this instead.

Voice search on your Sky remote is so powerful – but it's easily forgotten

You can actually search for TV shows and movies just by saying famous quotes from them.

So if you know you're looking for the film where someone says "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", your Sky remote will know that you're looking for Apocalypse Now.

And if you remember that someone said "I see dead people", Sky knows you mean The Sixth Sense.

It's built directly into your Sky Q box as a feature so you don't need to download any extra apps.

All you need is the voice remote with the microphone button and you can get started.

HOW TO USE SKY TV QUOTE SEARCH

Searching for a movie with its quote works just like any other spoken Sky Q remote request.

Just press and hold the voice button and speak clearly into the microphone.

The microphone itself is just below the Sky button on your remote.

OTHER SKY VOICE TRICKS

There are plenty of other ways you can use the microphone on your Sky remote to speed things up.

For instance, you can ask for specific apps to launch – like Netflix or YouTube.

And you can ask for a channel change too: just say "Sky Atlantic" or "ITV".

Similarly, you can request recordings that you've made using your Sky box.

CAN'T GET VOICE CONTROL TO WORK?

Here are Sky's official tips for fixing Voice Control...

If Voice Control isn't working, check your Sky Q remote for problems:

  1. Remove the battery cover off the body of the Sky Q remote.
  2. Take out the batteries and insert them again, matching the + and - signs.
  3. Once the batteries are in place, replace the cover by aligning the catch with the remote body and sliding forward, so it clicks back into place.

Press help (?) on your remote to check it has battery power:

  • If the LED light at the top of the remote flashes , then press and hold the Voice Control button. If you don't see the search screen then replace the batteries, and press the Voice Control button once more.
  • If the LED light at the top of the remote doesn't flash , then check the batteries are in correctly. If they are, replace them with new batteries. Press and hold the Voice Control button, if you don't see the search screen then pair the remote.

You can play or pause, which isn't wildly useful – but a better trick is "skip three minutes", allowing you to breeze past ads in recorded TV.

And if you're looking for movies, you don't just need to use the title or quotes.

You can ask for an actor, or even movies that meet a specific star rating.
