But they're also a way for influencers to trend on social media.
That's just what Jillian did when she split from her mystery ex.
Posting under the name Spritely, Jillian's song tells of her astonishment at being told in a NOTE that her boyfriend wanted to split with her after three and a half years together.
The song earned her much support from the internet, with thousands of viewers flocking to her comment section to shame her ex-boyfriend for blindsiding her.
She also posted the song on her X account, and soon everyone had an opinion on her story.

According to the lyrics of Jillian’s song, she had been dating a guy in Los Angeles for over three years when he told her he wanted to move back to Texas to be closer to his dad.
Jillian moved across the country with him, blowing hundreds of dollars on removals and other costs of setting up their new place, totally depleting her savings.
When her boyfriend returned from a family vacation, he handed her a handwritten letter detailing why they weren’t compatible and that their three-year relationship was no more.
Jillian was heartbroken and ended up moving back home to live with her mom in Florida.

According to the singer, her boyfriend claimed in the note that they had “nothing in common”.
Lavin questioned: “How? How did I not notice this whole time?”

Lavin sarcastically sang about the cruel dumping, over clips of her crying throughout the video.

What is the response to Jillian’s story?
Viewers of the story were firmly on Jillian’s side, shaming her ex-boyfriend for being inconsiderate to the sacrifices she had made.
But there have been some not so sympathetic comments and people taking to the internet to shame Jillian for the unfortunate position that she finds herself in.
Those viewers have criticised Jillian for using up all her resources on a man she's not married to.
One person wrote on X: "Gave up her career, depleted her savings, and moved to pro-life Texas... for a boyfriend. y'all gon learn."

"Don’t build your life around someone who hasn’t actually committed to you.”
Some people even believed that her boyfriend’s sudden reason for their split was because he was dating someone else.
Jillian strongly denies this and speaking to , she said: "People are speculating: Was there another woman? Did his family talk him out of it?
"No, knowing him, there is no other influence involved.

"It was purely a decision that he made, and I guess he was in denial about it for so long because he’s so out of touch with his emotions.
"He said that at the point we moved to Texas together, he had fallen out of love with me, and I think it’s his fault that he kept these concerns bottled up long enough for that to happen."
