Alan Wake 2 is about to get even better with huge free update that will change the 90-rated game

It's giving players another reason to dive right back in this spooky season

ALAN Wake 2 was one of the most highly rated games of 2023, and it’s just gotten even better.

There have been two critically acclaimed expansions for the game, including Night Springs, which launched in June this year.

The most recent expansion, The Lake House, was released this week (October 22) and horror fans have already eagerly jumped in.

However, if you don’t want to pay more for extra Alan Wake 2 content, you can still grab a huge free update for the game’s first anniversary.

The anniversary update mostly consists of quality-of-life changes so people can better customise their gameplay.

The update will add a number of options so people can play Alan Wake 2 in new ways.

More in Alan Wake

Most changes will let players make the game easier for themselves, but in ways that best suit them.

Some of these are accessibility options like removing button mashing, and removing quick-time events.

There are also options to make weapon charging, healing and lightshifting quicker and more easily available with just a tap.

Players will also be able to remove some of the survival aspects to focus on the parts of the game they like.

Players can make themselves invulnerable or even immortal if they don’t like dealing with game overs.

Those who want to focus on the puzzles over the combat can choose to enable one-shot kills, infinite ammo, and infinite batteries.

Here is the full list of changes added in the update:

  • Quick turn
  • Auto complete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • One shot kill
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

Alan’s anniversary

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, and it’s great that developers are listening to player feedback and offering more options and quality of life changes.

As Alan Wake 2 has been out a year, these difficulty options will not only allow new players to get involved.

The new settings may tempt those who have already finished the game to jump in for another run.

We think that steps like these are great for the industry and we hope more games will be updated with options like this in the future.
