APPLE is days away from unleashing a massive upgrade to millions of iPhone models.
It's packed with perks – and we've picked out three of the biggest benefits you'll want to be using.
These new tricks are coming with iOS 18.1, and will arrive in October – though we don't have an exact release date just yet.
IOS 18.1 PERK #1 – RE-WRITING
There's a new feature coming in iOS 18.1 called Writing Tools.
It's a system-wide feature that will rewrite, proofread, and summarise text almost everywhere.
That includes Apple apps like Mail, Notes, and Pages, as well as third-party downloads too.

So you could use Rewrite to choose different versions of something you've written – like an email or a cover letter for a job.
For instance, Apple's Writing Tools could make it sound more professional, or even funny.
Then you can use Proofread to check your grammar, sentence structure, and word choice.
And it'll not only suggest edits but also explain them too.

You can then review and accept them – or ignore them, if you'd prefer.
Finally there's summarise, which lets you select a chunk of text and have it quickly recapped.
That could be in a short paragraph or bulleted points, or even a table.
IOS 18.1 PERK #2 – PHOTO CLEAN-UPS
Another great feature coming in iOS 18.1 is called Clean Up.
It's built directly into the Photos app and is designed to scrub objects or people from your snaps.
So if there's someone in the background ruining one of your shots, you can simply delete them.
And it won't affect the subject of the photo at all.
You can just tap and circle objects to delete them, and they'll be replaced by what Apple's AI thinks is appropriate background.
You'll find the button next to the usual Adjust, Filters, and Crop options on a photo's Edit page.
And if you change your mind about a Clean Up, you can just revert to the original picture at any time.
IOS 18.1 PERK #3 – PHONE CALL TRANSCRIPTIONS
The new update also allows you to record, transcribe, and summarise audio in the Notes and Phone apps.
For instance, you can start a recording on a call, which will notify the participants automatically.
When the call is over, Apple's AI will generate a summary so that you can recall key parts of the chat.
For instance, a summary of a call with the doctor's office would include the date and time of your appointment booking.
The catch to all of these new features is that they work using Apple Intelligence.
That means you'll need a device that not only supports iOS 18.1, but also Apple Intelligence.
Dozens of iPhone models support iOS 18.1 – but only six will get you Apple Intelligence tricks.
They include:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
