Surprise hit of 2024 is going mobile after hugely successful launch on Xbox and Steam
PALWORLD took the gaming world by storm earlier this year when it reached a peak of over 2million concurrent players on Steam.
As it launched simultaneously on both Xbox and Steam, it’s likely that the player count was even higher at its peak.
The game’s popularity quickly spread via word of mouth in January, and quickly became a viral sensation.
Palworld is still incredibly popular, and is welcoming new players thanks to a recent release on PlayStation.
PlayStation shadow-dropped Palworld for PS5 following the recent State of Play where Ghost of Yōtei was announced.
Despite the announcement for a long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Palworld still managed to dominate headlines.
More in Palworld
Palworld is a survival crafting game, where you build a base and collect Pals to work for you.
You can also use your pals to take down bosses and gather resources so that you can add to your base.
Fans called it Pokémon with guns, thanks to the cute designs of the Pals mixed with the use of heavy artillery.
It has now been announced that the South Korean publisher behind popular battle royale PUBG has signed a licensing agreement with Palworld developer Pocketpair to bring the game to mobile.
People have been asking for this port since the game was announced thanks to its widespread popularity.
Development of the mobile version will be handled by PUBG Studios, which develops the battle royale game and its mobile port.
PUBG is one of the most popular mobile games, so the studio seems the perfect partner for Palworld.
The battle royale feels like console quality even on the comparatively small mobile hardware.
PUBG Studios says it aims to faithfully reimagine the main elements of Palworld for mobile, giving players hope of a strong port.
There is no timeline for when the mobile port will be available, as it is likely still in early development.
This isn’t the first partnership that Pocketpair has formed following the success of its survival crafting game.
Earlier this year, Pocketpair established a joint venture with Sony Music Entertainment and Aniplex to license out the Palworld IP.
One of the first uses of the license was to release a collection of Palworld plushies for fans.
