PS5 Pro is finally official as price, release date and specs are announced but players aren’t happy

It will cost £375/$350 more than the original console

PLAYSTATION’S Technical Presentation is over, and it was exactly what players were expecting.

Sony revealed the PS5 Pro, including its design, release date, and specs.

However, even PlayStation fans were not impressed by the console, especially given the high price point.

PS5 designer Mark Cerny gave a brief breakdown of what the PS5 Pro does differently, and it’s in line with what we expected.

The PS5 Pro features a larger, faster GPU that can render up to 45 percent more quickly and calculates light rays up to double or triple the speed of the base PS5.

There is a new tech called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, which adds new pixels and lets you boost the resolution without altering the framerate.

The main draw of the PS5 Pro seems to be that it will offer players the fidelity of Graphics Mode with the frame rate of Performance Mode on most games.

There will also be 2TB of storage, which is more than double the original console’s 825GB storage capacity.

However, these differences didn’t seem enough to impress PlayStation fans, particularly given the price and missing features out of the box.

The PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024, and pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.

It will cost £699/$699, meaning that there will be a steep price rise for UK gamers over their US counterparts.

Aside from the PS5 Pro being roughly £230/$200 more expensive than the original console, it will also be missing a number of features.

There will be no disc drive in the Pro and instead users will have to purchase the detachable disc drive that was produced for the PS5 Slim.

This adds an additional £100/$80 on to the price from the original model.

A lesser concern is that the vertical stand will also need to be purchased separately, adding an additional £25/$30 onto the price tag.

As the PS5 originally launched for £450/$499, this equals an astounding £375/$310 over the original price.

This is enough money to buy another console, such as the Xbox Series S or a Nintendo Switch, and still have money left over for games.
