Roborace shows off first ever self driving electric RACE CAR at Mobile World Congress 2017
Two robot cars competed against each other in a Formula E circuit in Buenos Aires last week
DRIVERLESS racing cars could soon take compete against humans in futuristic motorsport championships.
That’s according to Roborace, who have created the first ever completely autonomous, electric car.
The Robocar, which was revealed at Mobile World Congress today, is controlled by artificial intelligence software and uses a laser-based light detection system and other sensors to guide it around the track.
The cars can talk to each other to avoid collisions.
However, a historical test where two Robocars competed against each other recently ended in a high-speed smash.
Two of Roborace’s robot cars, called Devbots, went head-to-head before the Formula E competition in Buenos Aires last week.
One car managed to finish the course at an impressive 116mph but the second took a corner at full throttle and caught the edge of the barrier.
Despite the collision, these incredible machines are tipped to take over the circuits in a futuristic championship to rival Formula 1.
The robocars will be on tour during the Formula E circuits taking place around the world.
