PlayStation fans are getting three classic PS2 games for free – but there’s a catch
PLAYSTATION has a massive library of games, but some titles are locked forever on older consoles, making them impossible to play on the PS4 and PS5.
As promised last month, Sony is changing this by adding PS2 games to its Classics Catalogue.
The first three newly added PS2 games are now available at no additional cost, but you have to be a PS Plus Premium subscriber.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars have been added to the Classics Catalogue today, June 11, 2024.
The three titles are not remasters nor remakes, but ported versions of the original games, running on modern consoles through emulation.
The games come complete with trophies, and features like rewind, save states, visual presets including CRT filters, and the option to switch between the PAL and NTSC version of the game.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, known just as Sly Raccoon in Europe, is an iconic action platformer with stealth elements that came out back in 2002 for the PS2.
The game introduced players to Sly Cooper, who quickly became one of PlayStation’s mascots, and the main character of three more games.
Tomb Raider: Legend is the seventh game in the series about British archaeologist Lara Croft; it rebooted the franchise and explored a reimagined version of Lara’s origins.
Released back in 2006, the game sees Lara Croft on a quest to find the mythical Excalibur, King Arthur’s sword, as she fights enemies and solves puzzles going through linear levels.
In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, you can drive most of the vehicles from the Star Wars universe and engage in third-person Jedi fighting.
The Clone Wars features both a single-player campaign and local multiplayer for up to four players via splitscreen.
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can download or stream the three new games, and they are not available for the lower Extra tier of PS Plus.
Players who do not have a subscription and don’t want one, can purchase the three games as standalone releases from the PlayStation Store.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus costs £7.99, Tomb Raider Legend is priced at £15.99, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars will set you back just £3.99.
