FORTNITE MOBILE

Fortnite announces that thousands more people will be able to play next year

Fortnite fans are thrilled they'll have more ways to play than ever before

FORTNITE is one of the world’s most popular games, with millions of people playing it on a variety of platforms.

It’s currently available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and Android, but there is one major platform that Fortnite hasn’t appeared on for years.

In 2020, Fortnite developer Epic Games, and Apple got into a payment dispute after Epic wanted to introduce a new payment system into Fortnite.

This would have prevented Apple from taking a cut of in-app purchases made by users on iOS devices.

A lawsuit ensued and the courts found in favour of Apple in nine out of ten counts.

Since then Fortnite has not appeared on the App Store, and mobile players can play the game only on Android devices.

In 2022, Epic founder Tim Sweeney tweeted “Next year on iOS”, but this release never came to be.

However, things might soon be changing after the UK passed the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill, which changes how digital markets operate.

The bill claims to “stamp out unfair practices and promote competition in digital markets” and also includes laws against making it difficult to cancel subscriptions.

The DMCC Bill was finally passed this month, opening the market for Fortnite's launch on iOS in the UK.

Fortnite’s official Twitter account tweeted: “Shoutout to the UK for passing a new competition law.”

“Epic Games Store and Fortnite are coming to iOS in the UK in the second half of 2025.”

While Epic Games has previously claimed that Fortnite will return to iOS, this is one of the first announcements backed up by policy changes.

Also given the long time frame, it seems Epic is being more reasonable about the launch.
