IN September 2022, Ubisoft decided to announce every single Assassin’s Creed game it had in development.

It seemed like the company was fed up with the numerous Assassin’s Creed leaks, and wanted to beat everyone to the punch.

Announcing work on seven different Assassin’s Creed projects, the reveals ranged from a full trailer of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, to a teaser image for Assassin’s Creed Red.

Ubisoft recently revealed the full name for Assassin’s Creed Red, the upcoming game in the series based in feudal Japan.

Officially called Assassin’s Creed Shadows, back in 2022 all that was revealed aside from the setting was that the protagonist will be styled after traditional shinobi.

Vice president of the series Marc-Alexis Côté said during the reveal: “Red [is] our next premium flagship title and the future of our open-world RPG Assassin’s Creed games.

“It will let players explore one of their most awaited settings ever in the franchise, feudal Japan, and live a very powerful shinobi fantasy.”

Alongside the reveal of the official title, Ubisoft announced the date when the first official trailer will be shown.

A showcase featuring the trailer will launch on YouTube on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 9am PT/12pm ET/5pm BST.

However, some fans spotted a surprise in the preview to the showcase of YouTube.

The original Italian description for the YouTube video, as translated by GLHF, read: “Available starting November 15, 2024”.

The YouTube description has since been changed, but screenshots of the original version have already circulated.

Hiding the original description has led fans to believe that this is the official release date, and that it will be revealed alongside the trailer.

Ubisoft also invited fans to crack the ‘hourglass puzzle’ as a giant hourglass counting down to the trailer has been placed in Dotonbori, Osaka.

At the bottom of the hourglass is the code S89N-O29S, which fans have translated to ‘shinobis’ by relating the numbers to the English alphabet.

Shinobi is another word for ninja, but as the plural of shinobi is shinobi some have speculated that the message reads ‘shinobi s’, with the ‘S’ potentially standing for shadows, or the protagonist’s name.
