‘I love this feature’ cheer iPhone owners after finding three-tap setting trick to make your battery last longer
A SIMPLE iPhone setting could make your battery last much longer.
It's designed to dramatically improve the health of your iPhone battery.
All lithium ion batteries – including the ones inside – degrade over time.
They chemically age for many reasons: The way you charge your iPhone and even its temperature can make a battery degrade faster.
This means they'll hold less charge compared to when they were new – so you'll have to charge more often.
Last year, Apple revealed a new feature designed to protect your battery and keep it "healthy" for longer.
It's called the "80% Limit" and it's designed to keep your iPhone battery healthier for longer.
When a battery is fully charged, it is put under stress – and that's not good.
With this feature switched on, your iPhone won't go above 80% charge (except in specific circumstances).
You can find it with three taps by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
Apple explains, "When you choose 80% Limit, your iPhone will charge up to about 80 percent and then stop charging.
"If the battery charge level gets down to 75 percent, charging will resume until your battery charge level reaches about 80 percent again."
Another said, "I’ve been using this feature as well. Hope it actually prolongs the life of my battery as I usually pass my phones down to family members!"
This is available on multiple iPhone models – not just the 2023 batch.
It's turned on by default when you set up your iPhone.
Apple explains, "When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations.
"Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time.
"The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged."
You'll know when Optimized Battery Charging is active because a notification will appear on the Lock Screen.
