How to change your Yahoo Mail password?

Many of us have forgotten our password, whether you are suddenly asked to verify your identity, or you just have something different from your Amazon, Netflix or social media accounts.

Yet, for email accounts, it can be slightly different, as for Yahoo, enter your email address or username as if to login normally.

Once you are asked to type in your password, click the "Forgotten password?" button - which will give you some options, depending what capabilities you have enabled.

You can select your mobile phone number - where you will receive a code to enter - or you may have a recovery email address set up.

There may also be the option of verification via phone app, such as the Yahoo Account Key through one of their applications like Yahoo Mail.

Choose one of these, change your password and then login as normal.

Yahoo shares way to speed up app fix

Yahoo is still rolling out its fix for yesterday’s outage.

If you want to speed up the fix you can uninstall your app and download it again, the company said on X.

Here’s what Yahoo had to say: “Thank you for your patience as we have worked to resolve an issue with our Apps today.

“A fix has rolled out, but this may take up to 24 hours to reach your device. To achieve a faster resolution, you can uninstall and reinstall your App.

“Please note: We recommend not uninstalling your App unless your login credentials (password etc.) are known, or your recovery channels are up to date, as you will be required to log back in upon reinstall.”

Fix could still take some time to reach accounts

Yahoo confirmed a fix had been implemented at 9pm last night.

However, Yahoo did confirm that the fix could take 24 hours to reach some devices.

In a statement on X, Yahoo said: "Thank you for your patience as we have worked to resolve an issue with our Apps today.

"A fix has rolled out, but this may take up to 24 hours to reach your device."

How to disable Yahoo search in Safari

1. Open Safari and click on the Safari menu at the top of the screen.
2. Select Preferences and click on the Advances tab.
3. Tick the box saying ‘Show Develop menu in menu bar’.
4. Click on the Develop button in the Safari menu and select Empty Caches.
5. Then select History in the Safari menu and click on Clear History.
6. Select All History and then Clear History again.
7. On Safari Preferences, click Privacy and then Manage Website Data.
8. Click Remove All – beware that this will log you out of some services.
9. Restart Safari.

Over 700 users still facing issues

According to DownDetector, over 700 customers are still facing issues with their email.

77% of the current issues are in relation to the app.

1. Open Chrome and click on the three dots on the top right-hand side of the screen, next to your Chrome profile.
2. Select Settings and then Advanced.
3. Scroll down to the Reset Settings section and click Reset Settings in the pop-up box.

App still down for some users

Some users on social media are still reporting their Yahoo Mail app is not working.

One X user said: "Yahoo Mail app still not working and I can't log in anywhere else without the app.. hot fix is not working (clearing cache )."

While another added: "My UK Yahoo Mail account is not working it keeps crashing. I need access to get my important messages as soon as possible. When are you going to fix this problem? Not very happy."

It is common for some problems to be reported throughout the day.

Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

Reports begin to fall

Reports are once again falling, as per Downdetector.

According to Yahoo's customer service X account, users should be regaining access to the Yahoo Mail app throughout today.

Reports on Downdetector peaked at over 7,000 yesterday as thousands were unable to access their accounts.

How to delete your Yahoo Mail app

One of the ways to resolve the issues with Yahoo Mail's app is to uninstall it and then download it again.

To do this, simply press down on the app icon and press uninstall on your mobile device.

You can then head over to your app store of choice and download it again.

You should only do this if you remember your log in details.

Reports on the rise once again

Reports of issues with Yahoo Mail are on the rise once again, as per Downdetector.

Yahoo has advised users to either uninstall and then reinstall the app or clear the app's cache to resolve the issues.

Yahoo Mail has offered advice to customers attempting to gain access to their accounts.

In response to one customer, Yahoo Mail said: “We are aware of this issue and are working hard to find a solution as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, you can try using the mobile browser on your device to access the mail. Thank you for your patience.”

Alternative way to fix the Yahoo Mail outage

If you are worried about uninstalling your Yahoo Mail app, clearing its cache could also resolve this week's issues.

For iOS devices:

• Close out any existing session
• Open the Settings app on your device and search for Yahoo
• Click on the Yahoo app, scroll to the bottom, and toggle the “Reset All Accounts” option
• Toggle on the button to relaunch the app

For Android devices:

• Hold down on the app
• Click on “info” in the top right corner to open Settings
• Scroll down to the usage section and open the “storage row”
• Clear your cache and data
