IPHONE rival OnePlus has followed the likes of Google and Samsung in rolling out generative AI features to smartphones owners.
In an upcoming ColorOS update, OnePlus is set to add three new features powered by artificial intelligence: an AI Summariser, an image editing tool and an article summariser.
Hawk-eyed Android fans, including and frequent Android Authority's spotted that OnePlus’ AI features are currently rolling out in China.
The AI Summariser essentially acts as a pocket-size assistant that can jot down important notes from calls.
It generates call summaries “by extracting times, places, action items, and other key information from your phone calls," according to OnePlus.
The feature resembles a new offering put out by Samsung with Galaxy AI, that is designed to summarise documents, websites, and notes.
The AI Summariser appears like it only summarises phone call recordings.
However, OnePlus is also adding a separate article summarisation tool that allows users to extract key information from articles without scrolling through the entire thing.
OnePlus is rolling out the new AI features to its newest handsets with a February Color OS 14 update.
These include the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 devices.
While the updates are available in China now, it’s unclear if OnePlus will roll out the same features to users in other countries.
If the features prove effective and popular, there is little reason why the phone company would hold back the features from global use.
OnePlus is also adding something called “AIGC Remover,” an AI-powered photo editing tool to remove unwanted objects or people from photos.
Again, it mirrors the Magic Eraser on Pixel phones and Samsung’s new AI editing tool - brings OnePlus in line with its competitors.
However, Apple is yet to unveil similar features for its iPhones, despite swirling rumours about a blockbuster AI upgrade later this year.
