Is your phone battery draining too fast? Samsung reveals four key tips to preserve power

One trick can even help protect you against malware

SAMSUNG phones have a raft of battery-saving features built into them - and making use of them can really help preserve your battery.

Your battery lifespan varies by network coverage, features and apps in use, the frequency of calls and usage and the quality of charge, Samsung explained in a help page on its website.

No matter how frequently you use your phone, there are ways to make sure this activity doesn't impede too much on your battery.

Update to the latest software

First, you'll want to make sure your Samsung device is running the latest software update.

Samsung will issue operating system changes and security patches to phones several times a year.

Make sure your device is running the latest software available, to get the most out of your battery and Samsung's battery-saving features, according to Samsung.

Turn off 5G

While connected to a 5G network, your Samsung device may eat up more power than usual.

This is because 5G and 4G (LTE) are used simultaneously for high-speed processing of data.

It's often unnecessary, because 4G can work nearly as well and uses less battery.

"Since your phone is connected to multiple networks at the same time, the battery may drain faster than you may expect," Samsung added.

"Your phone may also get a little warmer than when solely on 3G or LTE.

"To make up for this, you can use features that will optimise and improve your phone's overall performance."

Optimise your phone

Samsung's device care optimise feature can reduce battery consumption by closing unused apps and "controlling abnormal battery usage," the company explains.

The feature also scans for crashed apps and malware.

To set it up, follow these steps:

  • Open Settingsand then select Battery and device care.
  • Tap Optimise nowBattery and device care automatically optimises your phone.
    • You can set this feature to auto optimise when your device is not in use: In Battery and device care, tap More options (three vertical dots) > Automation > Auto optimize daily and tap the switch to activate it.

Switch on adaptive battery

Using Samsung's adaptive battery feature can extend your battery life by learning your device's usage patterns.

  • Open Settings and then select Battery and device care.
  • Tap Battery.
  • Tap More battery settings.
  • Tap the switch next to Adaptive battery.
