INTERNET experts have revealed where you should never put your Wi-Fi router.
The wrong position can lead to slow speeds and even an overheating disaster.
Wi-Fi users may be tempted to hide their router if it doesn't fit in with their home aesthetic.
As PC World notes, this can hinder performance.
Hiding a router can leave it struggling to send signals through the compartment you've put it in.
If you leave the device in a small place without proper ventilation it can overheat.
An overheating router will also produce slow Wi-Fi speeds.
To avoid this, try putting your router in a well-ventilated spot.
It should be preferably high up off the ground.
The PC World website states: "Wi-Fi router should be placed as freely and elevated as possible—this way its radio signals can spread undisturbed in all directions of the environment to reach the connected Wi-Fi devices without hindrance."
If you can't find the perfect high table for your router, you may want to consider a lesser-used spot.
It is possible to attach some Wi-Fi devices to the wall.
You'll just need a wall mount that's suitable for your router.
There are exceptions to having your Wi-Fi router kept off the ground.
If you live in a two-story home and want to send signals downstairs, you could put the router on the floor upstairs.
