A PLANE of the future dubbed the "Tesla of the skies" is totally electric - and powered by propellers.

The Her0 Zero Emissions plane uses three state-of-the-art EV engines to soar through the sky.

Although the plane is just a concept at the moment, its designer Joe Doucet says it could soon be a futuristic travel option.

He told : "If you can make this something that is desirable, something that makes people question why it’s not there, you have a better chance of forcing the hand of industry to respond to consumer demand.

"I really follow problems where they take me, and try to address the solutions elegantly."

Joe, from New York, said he has already been approached by aviation engineers who want to turn his concept into a real plane.

The electric jet has two long wings at its rear to help whip up lift, the force which keeps planes in the sky.

The wings are at the back to balance out the weight of the EV batteries and propellers.

A different fully electric plane completed a test flight in Canada in December 2019.

Aviation giant Airbus has also released a "bird of prey" concept for an electric plane.

British firm Cranfield Aerospace Solution is planning to turn a nine-seat Britten-Norman plane into the UK's first all-electric aircraft.

It comes as drivers are "falling in love" again - after a major car maker said it is bringing back an iconic motor as an EV.
