WhatsApp introduces new ‘secret code’ so no-one knows your private chats even exist

And how you can get the new feature before anyone else

WHATSAPP is developing a new way to make your most private chats even more secret.

The change will mean selected conversations will be completely invisible to everyone.

So the chats won't even be listed among other conversations to arose suspicion from any prying eyes.

And the only way to make them appear is by entering a secret code.

The secret code is completely different to your phone's PIN so they'll be more secure than ever.

To reveal the hidden chats, you apparently need to enter the secret code in the search bar.

At the moment, the clever trick is only available to beta testers who get to try out new WhatsApp additions before anyone else.

It's not clear when - or indeed if - WhatsApp owner Meta intends to release secret codes to the public at large.

During the testing phase they may decide it's not useful and pull the idea.

So if you're desperate to try this feature now, you'll need to become a beta tester.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your  and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see "Become a Beta Tester".

Tap the "I'm In" button and then click "Join" to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Joining the WhatsApp beta on  is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
