Xbox catches up with PlayStation as long-awaited streaming app finally launches

The streaming service will be available on Xbox one and Xbox Series X/5 in the UK

XBOX will finally launch its highly anticipated streaming app as it plays catch up with PlayStation.

Microsoft and Paramount+ have struck a deal for the streaming service to be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in the UK and other countries.

The partnership will see Paramount+ be rolled out in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latin America (including Brazil), Switzerland as well as the UK.

The service will cover new original shows, exclusive series, blockbusters, hit shows and kids favourites.

Paramount senior VP of international streaming distribution and business development Angela Heckman said: “Our goal is to make Paramount+’s popular content, characters and franchises available to an expanded audience.”

Among the shows on offer will be popular US series like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and NCIS as well as newer content including Fellow Travellers, The Curse, Halo and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Animated shows include SpongeBob SquarePants and South Park.

Also on offer are MTV’s young adult series and hit music shows.

Heckman added the deal with Xbox is in keeping with the streamer’s aim to increase its “reach in key international markets by executing on a distribution strategy that includes both global and local partners.”

Along with Microsoft, Paramount+ has previously signed deals with worldwide services such as Amazon and YouTube, Apple, Google, Samsung, Roku, LG and Sky.

Paramount previously launched on PlayStation's PS4 and PS5.

It comes after Xbox fans were shocked as "infuriating" ads appear when they want to play games.
