Due to a new app launch, one of the device's unique features will no longer work from November 17, reports.

Vodafone is not offering any free upgrades or compensation as a result of the move.

But customers have been informed they can "change or cancel your plan within the next 30 days without paying a fee".

The feature in question is Alexa.

As well as acting as a mesh network to expand Wi-Fi range, the device also had the Amazon-made voice assistant built-in.

This meant you could ask all the usual questions and requests, such as checking the weather or setting an alarm.

You could even control any smart devices you own with it such as lights.

Users could take advantage of the full set of Alexa skills available too.

Vodafone even had its own skill called Dinnertime especially for the extender.

It allowed parents to start a 30 minute digital downtime for a screen-free meal.

The firm's new broadband app apparently doesn't support Alexa.

So after November 17, Alexa skills will stop working but the kit will continue doing its primary function boosting the Wi-Fi connection.

Customers eager to continue using Alexa may consider buying an Amazon Echo speaker.

The Echo Pop is the cheapest, at the time of writing.
