Though a specific date was never officially set, the free update was expected to land a month ago.

Android 14 is set to include a host of new features, including an AI message suggestion generator Magic Compose, greater lock screen options and wallpapers, and privacy and security dashboard improvements.

Android U stands for Android Upside Down Cake, the secret codename used by Google when referring to Android 14.

But the reference has since disappeared.

If it the launch does happen, we won't have to wait much longer to find out.

Google is promising to reveal "the latest additions to the Pixel portfolio".

And it's teased a "few more surprises" too, which could well be Android news.

The event kicks off at 3pm BST.

Google has already revealed what the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro handsets look like - and it's not too different from last year's predecessors.

The standard Pixel 8 is set to come in three colours: Obsidian, Hazel, and Rose.

Obsidian will also be available on the Pixel 8 Pro, along with Porcelain and Bay.

To prepare your Android phone for the upgrade, make sure you have enough space for it to download - last year's Android 13 update was 2.8GB in size.

Also make sure your phone is charged up.
