Apple fixes serious iOS flaw and iPhone owners must update their devices now to avoid ‘spy attack’

APPLE has released another important iOS update for iPhones over security concerns.

This latest move affects older iPhones who weren't covered by last week's update.

The bug - known officially as CVE-2023-41064 - was found to be actively exploited by hackers.

According to experts at Citizen Lab who raised the alarm to Apple, the flaw could be used to deliver NSO Group’s Pegasus mercenary spyware.

The controversial tool was exposed in 2016 for allowing governments across the world to hack the phones of journalists, lawyers, political dissidents, and human rights activists.

It could get past encryption of any iPhone or Android device to covertly infiltrate a user's calls, texts, pictures, and whereabouts.

But Apple has since developed ways of blocking it.

The latest iOS update is for devices only able to get iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

This includes iPhone 6s (all models), iPhone 7 (all models), iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad Air 2, iPad mini (4th generation), and iPod touch (7th generation).

"For our customers' protection, Apple doesn't disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available," Apple said.

How to update my iPhone

The easiest way to update is by going to Settings.

Tap General.

Then, Software Update.

If an update is available to download now, it'll be displayed here.
