Apple plots HUGE upgrade for iPhones users – your password is about to change forever
APPLE is about to get rid of passwords for Apple IDs, which may sound scary, but it means you'll never have the opportunity to forget it again.
It's a big move from the tech giant, and follows that of Google and Microsoft in an effort to help slash the risk of phishing campaigns.
Google announced last month that it had started adding passkey support for Google accounts to help make them more secure.
Because it turns out, passwords aren't actually that secure.
Some of them are easily guessable, forgettable, thievable and of course, nobody is immune to the manipulation tactics of scammers online.
Passwords are regularly exposed in data breaches and you may even be tricked into sharing your passwords by way of phishing attacks.

So instead of having a password, Apple is giving its customers a 'passkey'.
A passkey is a safer type of password, and will make your Apple accounts virtually un-hackable.
It's a credential that is tied to a particular device, such as an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
They rely on biometric verification like Touch ID or Face ID.

The new form of entry into your Apple accounts is to be launched alongside its iOS 17, which is slated to arrive as soon as July for beta testers.
For everyone else, the feature is expected to become available sometime in September.
Passkeys will be necessary to log in to Apple accounts, such as Apple ID and iCloud - without having to remember a password.
Apple plans to fade out passwords slowly, as some iPhone owners won't be able to use passkeys this year at all.
This is because iOS 17 will not be compatible with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X - or any device before it.
Only those with an iPhone XS, which came out in 2019, or newer iPhones will be able to download iOS 17.
So, if you're keen on using passkeys or any other new features that accompany iOS 17 - then it might be time to upgrade to a newer device.
