BBC viewers warned of huge change to long-running TV service – check your box now
THE BBC is dialling back is Red Button service in a bid to push viewers towards iPlayer.
After two decades, the broadcaster will stop airing extra Wimbledon Red Button feeds via satellite.
Bonus coverage will be available on iPlayer instead, the BBC's internet television service.
It means those watching satellite TV on older receivers will miss out on the extra Wimbledon feeds unless they open up iPlayer, according to RXTVInfo.
However, those on newer receivers will still be able to watch as the coverage is delivered via the internet.
The BBC has traditionally offered six temporary pop-up channels to viewers over the summer.

These would air Wimbledon and even Glastonbury coverage pre-pandemic.
But this year, the BBC will carry just one live channel titled ‘Wimbledon Extra’ on the Red Button, which will also be found on iPlayer.
This applies to everyone with Sky, HD and older Freesat receivers.
"Extra coverage is on the iPlayer only. Older receivers do not have the full iPlayer app," according to RXTVInfo's report.

Every tennis match in the upcoming tournament will also be available to watch on iPlayer.
Sky Q customers and those with newer Freesat receivers that are connected to Wi-Fi can click onto the One Red Button channel as always, but they will be directed to iPlayer where they can watch the the BBC's coverage.
Standard live broadcast TV coverage will run on BBC One and BBC Two, with highlights from 9pm on BBC Two.
