Thousands of Sky and BT customers gain major broadband speed boost – check your postcode

THOUSANDS of Sky, BT and TalkTalk customers are set to receive a boost to their broadband speeds - but there's a catch.

This upgrade is reserved only for those in the 10 areas listed below.

The UK has been on a mission to tackle slow internet speeds in rural areas.

The upgrade, spearheaded by network manager Openreach - which is part of BT, is essential for modern living and busy households.

The rise of working from home and dependency on TV streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime TV has meant households need faster broadband than ever before.

It forms part of the government's plan to have ‘gigabit capable broadband’ available to 85 per cent of UK by 2025.

It also keeps Openreach on track to achieve its target to rollout a full fibre network to 25m homes and businesses by 2026.

It means replacing old copper lines which Wi-Fi uses to travels down into your home which can only offer basic 70Mbps speeds.

Faster Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology will their their place, which can beam Wi-Fi through walls at a speed of up to 1Gbps.

Once upgraded, households will be able to trim download speeds down from around 8minutes to just 30seconds at the fastest rate.

  • Grangemouth - Falkirk
  • Carnforth - Lancashire
  • Mexborough - South Yorkshire
  • Mercury - Greater Manchester
  • Driffield - East Riding of Yorkshire
  • Saughall - Cheshire
  • Luton - Bedfordshire
  • Redditch Old Town - Worcestershire
  • Morriston - Swansea
  • Cheriton - Kent
