Simple TV trick is so handy but could ruin your relationship in seconds – only brave telly fans dare to try it
IF you find yourself losing control of your TV remote there's a clever trick that could give you the upper hand.
Little do some telly fans realise, many smart TVs these days allow you to download an app-based zapper on your iPhone and Android device.
They're great if you've lost or broken your physical remote.
And they're free too.
Your main control will still work, so it could lead to some remote wars if you're not careful.

How to control your TV using your smartphone
Most big smart TV brands allow you to control your device with your smartphone.
Samsung TVs use the SmartThings app.
For LG it's called LG ThinQ.
These will only work if you're connected to the same WiFi network - so no meddling from a distance.

The Google Home app has a remote control feature for any smart TVs that are Android-based.
So this will work with the likes of Sony, Philips and TCL to name a few.
There are some third-party remote apps available, though we haven't tested any so can't say whether they are safe or not.
