DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER

Facebook users rejoice as plans are revealed to REVERSE huge Messenger change made nine years ago

FACEBOOK wants to undo a huge change it made to Messenger years ago by putting the service back in the main app.

The social network controversially split the two up in 2014, forcing millions to download a separate Messenger app.

It didn't go down well with users at the time, who preferred to keep everything in one place.

But nine years on, it looks like the tech giant is preparing to change course once again.

In a lengthy post, Facebook owner Meta revealed few details about the plan.

"We are testing the ability for people to access their Messenger inbox within the Facebook app and you’ll see us expand this testing soon," is the only hint the firm gave for now.

Back in 2014, Mark Zuckerberg, 38, said the split would allow for ";a better experience".

But fans were not impressed and have long-called for the two to be paired up again.

It all comes as Facebook faces tough competition from TikTok - which happens to have messaging built into the main app.

Zuckerberg's right hand man Tom Alison, who head up Facebook, said the platform is "not dead nor dying".

Facebook now has two billion daily actives — the highest it’s ever been.

Despite this, the firm laid off thousands of workers in November.

And there are reports more could follow.

"Facebook is off to a great start this year," he said.

"Contrary to reports otherwise, Facebook is not dead nor dying, but in fact alive and thriving with 2 billion daily active users."
