Millions of iPhone and Android users urged to make simple change that saves you money

People are just realising that tackling spam emails and sorting through old files can actually save them money.

They are must-have tricks for Google fans.

Google Drive and Gmail are used by around three billion people everyday.

But the popular apps only give users a combined 15GB of storage space.

Once you hit that limit, you'll essentially be locked out of the apps.

It means you won't be able to upload anymore files to Google Drive and your Gmail inbox will stop receiving any new emails.

Both can fill up fast, if users aren't careful.

It's a fairly small sum, so users are often tempted to pay out of convenience - but you don't have to.

First you just have to tackle the largest files.

You can easily check how big a file is in the Storage option (bottom left of the page) in Google Drive, and search for emails 'With attachment' in Gmail to find the storage hogging culprits.

In Gmail, you can also type 'has:attachment larger: 10MB' to dig out the most storage intense emails.

Next, you target spam.

Simply tap the empty square in the top left of the page to select all spam emails, and hit delete all.

Google also includes Google Photos in the courteous 15GB of combined storage.

Photos and videos can take up more space than text-based files.

However, there is currently no option to arrange your photos and videos from largest to smallest, so you will have to go through and delete items manually.
