DOOR DISASTER

People are just realising huge Ring doorbell mistake millions may be making

The ICO has issued advice on Ring doorbells

AMAZON'S Ring doorbell can help owners keep track of activity nearby their home - but the feature can kill its battery.

The device notifies users of movement around your home through its in-built motion detector.

But if the motion detector is too sensitive, users can be bombarded by Ring notifications alerting them of nearby activity on their smartphone.

When Ring is picking up on lots of activity, which it shows users video footage in the Ring app, it can drain the battery of the device.

What many users don't know, however, is that they can customise their Ring device's so-called motion zone.

A motion zone is the space around the Ring device which it has been told to keep a watchful eye on.

The customisable feature allows users to define a specific area they want their Ring device to cover, while ignoring everything outside of that space.

If that area is too wide, it can pick up on too much activity that user doesn't need to be alerted of, such as people walking on the pavement outside or cars driving past their home.

To put a stop to so-called 'false positive' motion alerts, users can do so through the Ring app.

Inside the Ring app, tap the three lines on the top left of the screen.

Then tap Devices > select your device > Motion Settings > Edit Motion Zones > Default Zone and adjust the zone > Done > Save.

Users can add up to three different motion zones in total.

Ring has advised users to look out for high traffic areas when adjusting motion zones.

Users can also schedule different motion zones, to avoid being alerted of regular occurrences.

"If you know your garbage always gets picked up between 7:30am and 7:45am on Tuesdays, you can schedule your motion detection to turn off during that time," experts at Ring explained.

Ring, owned by ecommerce giant Amazon, has recently made this feature accessible to users with battery-powered devices.
