In the wake of double-whammy price hikes, subscribers new and old flocked to social media with claims they were cancelling their memberships.

Fortunately, Netflix's cheapest option is its ad-supported tier, which has stayed at the same price of £4.99 / $6.99.

But if you think it's time to quit, there are some very good free options around.

Many feature well-known TV shows and movies with adverts to make up for it being free.

And you can save a minimum of £60 a year if you're on Netflix's cheapest subscription.

Here are the four best options to consider.

Amazon Freevee

Freevee - previously known as IMDb TV - is Amazon's big take on free streaming and it has some big names onboard.

The service has exclusives like Judy Justice and it's the new home of Neighbours too.

Classic shows such as The Mindy Project, Parks and Recreation, Hell's Kitchen and West Wing are also available to watch.

In terms of movies, there are some well-known titles including What Women Want, Curse Of Chucky and Love, Rosie.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV is mainly focussed on offering live channels similar to traditional TV with ads.

But there's some on-demand content as well.

You'll find themed channels with specific genres like horror and sci-fi, as well as shows like CSI.

Charlie's Angels, Hart to Hart, Starsky and Hutch and Geordie Shore are on the roster too.

And you don't even need to sign up - you can watch it straight away.

Pluto TV and the UK's Channel 5 have also announced that they will merge into a combined streaming and on-demand service under a brand name that is yet to be revealed.

The new app is scheduled to arrive next year.

UKTV Play

If you're a fan of Dave, Drama, W and Yesterday then the UKTV Play is the place for you.

The latest featured shows include Meet The Richardsons, Annika and Great British Railway Journeys.

You'll have to sign up to start watching - and there are ads.

ITVX

ITVX launched in November, replacing the old ITV Hub.
