APPLE JUICED

NEW features are great but they can have an impact on your iPhone's battery.

iOS 16 packs loads of fresh goodies, such as improvements to the lock screen and new options in iMessage.

Here are some of the new features that could be sucking up your device's juice.

Lock screen widgets

Lock screen widgets have been a long time coming.

iOS finally caught up with Android after Apple decided to introduce support for them.

They mean you can have updates for things like WhatsApp, Uber and Facebook directly on your iPhone's screen without needing to unlock it.

However, this also means power is needed to run them.

While it may not be a huge amount - and Apple is getting better and better at optimising battery usage - having widgets on will inevitably eat into battery at least a little.

To remove widgets from your lock screen, hold down on empty space until a Customise button appears at the bottom.

You can then remove any widgets you've got installed.

Haptic keyboard feedback

iPhone fans celebrated the arrival of haptic keyboard feedback.

The feature makes typing with your fingers a lot easier, providing a vibrating sensation with each button you tap.

Of course, vibration uses up battery though.

It shouldn't be on by default, so if it's on it's because you enabled it.

To switch haptic keyboard feedback off, go to Settings and find Sounds & Haptics.

From Keyboard Feedback, toggle Haptic off.

Always On display

The Always On display is a brand new feature exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

It does what it says on the tin - keeps your display on at all times.

The lock screen dims, showing helpful information like the time and stuff from widgets.

Apple says it uses new technologies to make the display "incredibly power efficient".

But if you would rather it switched off, you can.

Go to Settings, then Display & Brightness.

Scroll down to Always On and turn it off.
