FIFA 23 releases at the end of the month, and with the web and companion apps out already, fans are eager to build their first FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT).
While it may seem that the best possible team would be made up of the world’s highest rated players, that’s not how FUT works.
The best teams require good chemistry between their players in order to reach their full potential.
Chemistry is created when players share a team, nationality, or league, and is even stronger if they share all three.
This means that sometimes it’s better to choose a lower rated player who fits in better with your team.
Here are our recommendations for the best players to make up your FIFA 23 FUT.
More in FIFA 23
Goalkeeper - Ederson
While not the top rated goalie in FIFA 23, Ederson remains a strong choice with an 89.
He has been with Manchester City for a number of years, and has good synergy with the squad's numerous other top ranked players.
He’s a good shot stopper, and also excellent with the ball at his feet.
England’s Premier League has an excellent selection of players to choose from, making it a strong choice for the core of your FUT.

Right Back - Trent Alexander-Arnold
Another player that doesn’t quite reach the top ranks, Alexander-Arnold is still a strong 87-rated defender.
He’s arguably the best attacking full-back in world football.
A member of another of the Premier League’s strongest teams, Liverpool, he has good chemistry with van Dijk.
Using a strong Premier League based set of defenders for FUT will ensure that no striker makes it through.
Centre Back - Virgil van Dijk
90-rated van Dijk is the best defender in the world, both in real life and FIFA.
Playing for Liverpool, he synergises with the other members currently on our list of defenders.
Van Dijk transformed Liverpool when he transferred.
When all your defenders are from the same league, it creates impressive player chemistry.
Centre Back - Rúben Dias
Playing for Man City, it’s no surprise that 88-rated Dias has been chosen as a centre back.
He has twice the chemistry with Ederson, since they’re both from the same club and league.
Dias is a rock at the back for City as he makes scoring incredibly difficult for opposing strikers.
Dias is a strong player in his own half and poses an aerial threat at set-pieces.
Left Back - João Cancelo
Cancelo is a clever choice for the chemistry of this team.
Not only is he rated 88, but he is both a Man City player and Portuguese, meaning he makes one of the strongest pairs possible with Dias.
With this combination, all five defending players are from just two clubs in the Premier League.
Cancelo is a versatile defender who just keeps improving.
Central Midfielder - Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne is not only one of the Premier League’s best players, but also one of the best players in the world.
As a top 91-rated player, he feels essential on almost any FUT.
Another Man City player, he creates a key link between the defenders and the midfield.
Watching De Bruyne play is like poetry in motion.
Centre Midfielder - N’Golo Kanté
As Chelsea supporters, we may be biassed, but it’s hard to deny Kanté’s dominating performance as a midfielder.
With a rating of 89, he and De Bruyne are the only midfielders to make it into the Premier League’s top ten rated players.
Despite only linking to the defenders via the Premier League, as a French player he makes a vital connection to the attacking half.
The saying is true: two-thirds of the world is covered with water, the other third is covered by Kanté.
Centre Midfielder - Bernardo Silva
It may come as a shock, but we've chosen another Man City player to round out the midfield.
Hailing from Portugal, the 88-rated player has great chemistry with both Cancelo and Dias.
Silva is more than capable of pulling the strings from midfield.
He has excellent vision and top passing ability, tying the whole team together.
Striker - Karim Benzema
Finally, taking a break from the Premier League, Real Madrid’s Benzema hails from France, giving him chemistry with Kanté as well as the other strikers.
FIFA 23 considers him to be the world’s best player with a rating of 91.
While controversial off the pitch, his on field ability is unquestionable.

Striker - Kylian Mbappé
As FIFA’s three-time cover star, it’s no surprise that Kylian Mbappé received a 91-rating.
He’s also won Ligue 1’s player of the year for the last three years, creating chemistry for a French attacking half.
Mbappé plays for Paris Saint-Germain, undoubtedly Ligue 1’s best team.
A striker with a complete skill set, there’s a reason he’s the face of FIFA.
Striker - Lionel Messi
Another former FIFA cover star, Messi is undoubtedly an all time great.
Playing for Paris Saint-Germain, he maintains a vital link with fellow striker Mbappé.
