AirPods first launched in 2016
Apple first launched the AirPods back in 2016 – with fans comparing the first design to an electric toothbrush.
But the AirPods are now a cultural icon covered by teens and adults alike.
Apple has since launched several generations of AirPods, including a Pro model.
And while they all offer different features, they still all feature a stem on each bud.
AirPods will become a lot more comfortable and convenient
Apple's new AirPods will also feature more tips to allow for more comfortable fittings – including an extra small tip.
As far as convenience goes, users can use the AirPods themselves to play or pause media and even adjust the volume by swiping up and down.
AirPods Pro 2 battery life to improve
As far as battery life goes, the new AirPods Pro feature six hours of listening time from a single charge — or a 33 percent increase.
With the charging case, the AirPods feature up to 30 hours of listening time (an increase of six hours).
Enhanced noise cancellation incoming
One of the new features of the AirPods Pro 2 includes enhanced noise cancellation, which can cancel up twice as much noise as the original AirPods Pro.
Another development includes 'spatial audio', which allows users to feel like they are fully immersed in the audio.
First ever Emergency SOS feature
For the first time ever, iPhone Pro will be able to connect with satellites around the world to provide you with emergency service.
Crash Detection can also sense when you've been in a car accident to call emergency services immediately.
Impressive new camera
As far as the iPhone 14 camera goes, it features a mind-blowing 48-pixel design and a sensor that's 65 percent larger than any iPhone Pro.
At 2000 nits, images and videos are twice as bright as before and the highest of any smartphone.
Another notable feature is the Pro's Dynamic island – a front-screen widget that expands alerts and presents information in a new way.
New A16 bionic chip in iPhone 14 Pro
The model will come in two distinct sizes: The standard Pro will stand at 6'1 inches, while the Max version will measure 6'7 inches.
The Pro model will feature an A16 bionic chip that focuses on power efficiency, camera strength, and an intelligent display screen.
Its new front design also uses 30 percent less home screen area, which is meant to blur the line between software and hardware.
'Most innovative iPhone yet'
CEO Tim Cook called "the most innovative yet".
The water-resistant model is created using surgical steel stainless steel, and a ceramic shield.
It will come in four gorgeous colors: Space black, silver, gold, and the new deep purple.
HANDS OFF, HANDS ON
That’s it from the keynote – media are now being pulled through to the hands-on area.
That’s where we’ll get our first look at the new devices.
Expect full reviews in the coming days!
WHAT’S THE CELL?
You’ll pay $999 for the iPhone 14 Pro, and $1,099 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Storage options go right up to a whopping 1TB.
The pre-order date is September 9, and the release date is September 16.
QUICK NOTES
A few more things to note about the iPhone 14 Pro.
It’s got a 460-pixels-per-inch display.
And the new ultra-wide camera offers 3x improvement for light capture in photos.
PICTURE PERFECT
Apple says the new iPhone 14 Pro cameras are better than anything we’ve seen so far.
The cameras offer up to 2x better low-light capture.
That’s a big deal, as smartphones have always struggled in the dark due to their small sensor size.
So expect your drunken nightclub photos to capture more shocking detail than ever before.
COLOUR ME SURPRISED
Here are the new colours on the iPhone 14 Pro series.
You’ve got new Space Black and Purple options, as well as Silver and Gold.
HOT CHIP
Unlike the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro is getting a major processing upgrade.
The new Pro model features Apple’s custom-built A16 chipset.
It’s got 16billion transistors – tiny electronic switches that make computing happen – the most ever in an iPhone.
Apple says it’s the fastest chip on any smartphone in the world.
In fact, Apple claims it’s 40% faster than the competition.
And the chip uses 20% less power than last year’s A15 Bionic processor.
ALWAYS-ON
Apple has finally added an always-on display to the iPhone.
It’s a feature available on rival devices already, and appears on recent Apple Watch models too.
You’ll be able to see the time and widgets constantly, with what Apple says is minimal power draw. That means don’t worry about battery life.
It comes at a good time, as Apple has just revamped the Lock Screen with iOS 16.
SIZED UP
The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen.
And the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a larger 6.7-inch display.
These are the same sizes as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
They offer peak brightness of 2,000 nits – the highest in any smartphone.
NOTCH WATCH
The new ”mini notch” is actually called the Dynamic Island.
This will expand and contract based on what you’re doing.
For instance, it can instantly expand into a notification through a smooth animation.
The demo footage actually looks really good: Apple has managed to turn a screen cut-out into a compelling feature.
The Dynamic Island can show music album art, taxi journey ETAs, and can even split into two different elements if you’re multitasking.
GOING PRO
That’s not all: Apple has announced ANOTHER two iPhone models.
The next set is the iPhone 14 Pro – in two variants.
Notice a difference? The ”notch” at the top of the screen is gone.
It was introduced with the iPhone X to house the Face ID module.
But Apple has shrunk this to fit in a small pill-shaped cut-out at the top of the display.
PRICED UP
The iPhone 14 costs $799, while the iPhone 14 Plus comes in at $899.
The $699 Mini we saw last year is gone, so the base model is now $100 more.
But like-for-like, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 have identical pricing.
The iPhone 14 is out first on September 16, followed by the iPhone 14 Plus on October 7.
CALLING ALL SATELLITES
Satellite ’Find My’ alerts that let you relay your location to friends and family is available for free for two years with iPhone 14 purchases.
It’s only offered in the US and Canada initially – live from November.
OFF GRID
Apple has also added a new emergency feature to get help even when you’re off the grid in a remote location.
The new Emergency SOS lets you connect to a satellite, sharing your location with emergency services.
You’ll be alerted when satellite reception is available, and also when emergency responders have received the ping.
G-WHIZ!
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 14 features support for speedy 5G internet.
And you can also opt for an eSIM on your iPhone, ditching physical SIM cards.
It’s possible to store multiple eSIMs on a single device.
And it can’t be lost or stolen.
FILM FIRST
Apple has equipped the iPhone 14 with a new and more advanced video stabilisation mode.
It’s called Action Mode, using the full sensor to make videos look incredibly stable.
Demo footage shown by Apple during the keynote was very impressive.
SNAP HAPPY
Apple says the new iPhone offers 49% better low-light image capture.
There’s a larger sensor and faster focus, with an f/1.5 aperture.
According to Apple, night-mode photographs can now be snapped much faster.
And the selfie camera is also improved with a faster aperture, offering a 39% boost to low-light selfies.
And here’s a look at the new colours…
