How to hide your online status on WhatsApp for iPhone and Android

NOT everyone wants their friends and family to know when they're online.

Luckily, there is a way to maintain some privacy on WhatsApp and it's super easy to set up.

How to hide your WhatsApp online status on an iPhone?

Before doing anything, make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed, as the steps can change.

When that's done, do the follow.

1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Privacy.
4. Tap Last Seen & Online at the top.
5. Look for the option called 'Who can see when I'm online'.
6. Choose between Everyone or Same as Last Seen.

If you want to hide when you're online, you'll need to set the Last Seen to Nobody, and the second option as Same as Last Seen.

How to hide your WhatsApp online status on an Android?

The steps to turn off the last seen status on Android are pretty much the same as iPhone.

1. Open WhatsApp on your Android.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Go to Privacy.
4. Hit Last Seen & Online at the top.
5. You'll find an option titled 'Who can see when I'm online'.
6. Choose between Everyone or Same as Last Seen.

Why was the WhatsApp online status settings changed?

WhatsApp adjusted how people hide their online status in June 2022.

"Seeing when friends or family are online helps us feel connected to one another," said WhatsApp following the update.
