SOCIAL media morgul Mark Zuckerberg took selfies with his wife and visited Mars at the unveiling of a new piece of hardware which will help step-up the effort to integrate virtual reality with Facebook.
Part of the company's Oculus division, the aim of the virtual reality gadget is to get an array of virtual reality gear to consumers in the coming months, including a new 'Touch' controller and compatible computer.
The hardware was announced at the third annual Oculus Connect developers conference in San Jose, California.
Zuckerberg, who is the co-founder of Facebook, said during a keynotes speech: "We are here to make virtual reality the next major computer platform.
";At Facebook, this is something we are really committed to."

The company has invested more than $250m in developing content for virtual reality gear, and has committed another $250m, to that mission, according to Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg donned an Oculus Rift headset while on stage, virtually travelling with a pair of colleagues to the bottom of the sea and the surface of Mars, pausing in the middle to take a Messenger video call from his wife Priscilla.
To show off how Oculus meshes with Facebook, Zuckerberg also snapped a selfie with his wife in the virtual world and posted it in real time to his page on the social network.
He said: "The magic of virtual reality is the feeling you are really there, in another place.
"The next phase is great software experiences."
Zuckerberg also revealed the 'Touch' controller, a key accessory for virtual reality experiences, which gives Oculous users 'hands' in virtual worlds.
The $199 device will be available worldwide on December 6.
