How to add music to an Instagram story

Since the feature launch in 2018, multiple ways have been released to add music to an Instagram story.

One of the most popular ways of doing it is using the Stories sticker.

The process is done in 11 easy steps:

1. Open the app.
2. Press the plus sign button at the top of the screen.
3. Scroll at the bottom over from "post' to "story".
4. Select your photo or video from the bottom left-hand corner (which should show you your photo library) OR simply type text onto the screen using the "create" mode.
5. Tap the sticker button up at the top (it's the one that looks like s smiling sticky note).
6. Locate the music button.
7. Type in the song you are looking for or browse by mood, genre preference, or popularity.
8. Select the song that you are looking for.
9. Press "Done" in the top-right corner.
10. Move the sticker where you would like it on the screen.
11. Press the "Your Story" button at the bottom of the screen (or the "Close Friends" option if you have that setup.

Once the music has been selected, users can edit the sticker to change the lyrics being played, the length of the music, and how they want it to appear in their story.

How can I find trending audio to use?

Whether you're making reels or just want to jazz up your stories as we've explained above, there are tons of resources to find trending audio for your Instagram.

The first way is to scroll through your reels on the Instagram app.

If a sound catches your attention, check to see if it has an upward arrow in the bottom left-hand corner.

If it does, then you can click on it if you want to make it into a reel, or you can search for the song if you want to add it to your story.

Another way to find audio that's typically a few weeks ahead of Instagram's curve is by searching for "trending audio this week" on TikTok.

If you find a song, you can search for it under the music sticker to see if it's made its way to Instagram yet.

Sometimes it may take a few days to a few weeks for audio to be added to both platforms.

Can you add music from SoundCloud to your Instagram Story?

SoundCloud artists are just as welcome on the platform as Apple Music and Spotify users.

In five easy steps, users can also add their favorite SoundCloud songs to their stories.

Those steps include the following:

1. Opening the SoundCloud app
2. Find the song you want to share
3. Press the three horizontal dots at the bottom of the screen
4. Select "Share to Instagram Stories"
5. Press the "Your Story" button at the bottom of the screen

Many SoundCloud users have used this feature to promote their music on multiple platforms.
