Call of Duty Warzone update has ‘RUINED’ Gulag with automatic weapons, furious fans moan

CALL of Duty fans are seething over the latest update to the game's smash-hit Warzone mode.

The download has added automatic weapons to Gulag, an area of the Wazone map where players are sent after they die for the first time.

Two competitors are pitted against one another in a 15-second, 1v1 fight to the death, with the winner earning themselves a respawn.

Prior to an update released by games publisher Activision on Tuesday, players could only use pistols or shotguns during Gulag fights.

And according to fans on social media, bringing automatic weapons in has "ruined" the winner-takes-all mode.

"Putting automatic weapons in the Gulag is s**t," one Twitter user fumed.

Another blared: "AYO GET AUTOMATIC WEAPONS OUT OF THE FUCKING GULAG";.

A third moaned: "Adding automatic weapons to the Gulag has ruined that entire mechanic. So stupid."

The complaints appear to stem from the fact that it's far easier to gun someone down with an assault rifles or submachine gun than a pistol.

Opponents to the update argue that adding these weapons to Gulag means the better player is less likely to emerge victorious.

As gaming site puts it, Warzone "is being ruined by all manner of bullet hoses."

Activision, on the other hand, argues the guns "expand the range of engagements in the Gulag."

"While you can still receive a shotgun or pistol, be aware that different weapon classes are now being handed out in this fight for your life," the company wrote in a .

"The new weapon choices include the AK-47, M13, Kilo 141, Ram-7, Striker 45, and more."

There's no word yet on whether the change is permanent, or something Activison plans to drop further down the line.

The US firm constantly tweaks Warzone to keep it fresh, so don't be surprised if automatic weapons are removed from Gulag in future.

Warzone is a new standalone Call of Duty game that's free to play, even if you don't own a copy of the shooter.

It pits 150 players against one another in a hectic battle to be last man standing.
