How to appear offline on Xbox and PS4 so pals can’t see you playing games
WANT to appear offline on an Xbox or PS4? It's easy when you know how.
We've put together a simple guide on how to disappear from pals on your favourite console.
There are loads of reasons why you might want to appear offline.
Maybe you don't want to be disturbed during an intense gaming session.
Or perhaps you've got colleagues that you don't want snooping on your play-time.
Whatever the reason, here's what you need to do.
How to appear offline on Xbox
Make sure you're signed in to Xbox Live.
Then press the Xbox button on your controller.
Scroll to the left and select your profile image.
Click it to find a drop-down menu and then press 'Appear Offline'.
You can also appear offline on Xbox One to some (but not all) people.
Go to your Xbox One settings, then choose Account on the menu to the left.
Then choose Privacy & Online Safety on the right.
Next, choose Custom, and then selection View Details & Customise.
Then press the drop-down menu under Others Can See If You're Online.
From there, you can choose whether to allow everyone to see your status, just friends, or no one at all.
How to appear offline on PS4
If you don't want pals to see that you're online, you can choose to appear offline.
Your friends will see your status as offline if they check your profile.
And they won't be notified when you sign in to the PlayStation Network, even if they're settings would normally alert them.
Simply go to your Profile, and then select Set Online Status.
Then just choose Appear Offline, and that's it.
You'll see a red "X" next to your avatar to confirm that you're appearing offline to others.
